THE MOUTH IS AN ECOSYSTEM.
The oral cavity hosts complex microbial communities that interact with teeth, gums, tongue and mucosa. It is not a surface to be sanitised, but a biological environment that continuously reorganises itself.
Hygiene, diet, daily habits and individual conditions modify this environment through the course of the day. The hygiene routine intervenes twice; the ecosystem changes constantly.
It is in that gap — between the frequency of the routine and the continuity of the environment — that the need Dental-Bio™ addresses is located.
The oral microbiome
The mouth is the second densest microbial community in the human body. Hundreds of species coexist across teeth, tongue, gums and mucosa, organised into structured biofilms rather than dispersed as incidental contamination.
This ecosystem shifts through the day. Diet, hydration, mouth breathing, medication and the intervals between one hygiene routine and the next continuously alter local conditions — and with them, which species prevail.
Conventional oral hygiene addresses this system with tools designed to reduce the total load. That is effective against visible plaque, but indifferent to the composition of the community that reforms immediately afterwards.
The resulting need is one of continuity rather than intensity: sustaining a workable routine across the real moments of the day, not only at the two visits to the sink.
The platform begins with one decision: a microbiome-oriented characterizing principle, Kluyveromyces marxianus, instead of a broad-spectrum antiseptic. That constrains everything else in the formulation, because an aggressive base would negate the point of the principle chosen.
Hence the fluoride-free base with no mint or menthol: not an omission, but the consequence of a formulation that must remain ingestible, usable without rinsing and suitable from the age of three.
Silica maintains the mechanical cleaning action, which remains necessary: a microbiome orientation does not replace the physical removal of plaque, it accompanies it.
The apricot and lemon essential oil profile completes the logic: it makes repeated use through the day acceptable, which is the condition on which continuity depends.

Traditional oral care is strongly associated with the idea of cleaning. Dental-Bio™ introduces a microbiome-oriented perspective, also considering the biological environment of the mouth within the daily routine.

Kluyveromyces marxianus
Kluyveromyces marxianus is the characterizing principle of the Dental-Bio™ platform.
FROM ELIMINATION TO BALANCE.
Conventional oral hygiene grew out of an antimicrobial premise: fewer bacteria, fewer problems.
Research on the oral microbiome has shifted that frame. The problem is not the presence of bacteria, but the loss of balance across the community.

The mouth hosts hundreds of microbial species, not a single enemy.
The oral cavity is one of the most complex microbial ecosystems in the human body. Plaque is not dirt: it is a structured biofilm in which many species coexist. Treating it as contamination to be wiped out ignores its ecological nature.
- The mechanism
Dysbiosis precedes the symptom.
Halitosis, gingival inflammation and caries formation are associated with a shift in biofilm composition — not simply with the total quantity of bacteria. The ecological plaque hypothesis describes this transition: when local conditions change, the dominant species change with them.
- The antimicrobial limit
A broad-spectrum antiseptic does not discriminate.
Aggressive antimicrobial formulations reduce the total load without selectivity: they also act on the commensal species that contribute to balance. The result is a temporary reset followed by uncontrolled recolonisation.

Oral care is a mature category: near-total penetration, predictable repeat purchase, and a consumer who already knows the routine and needs no education. The consequence is heavy competitive concentration on price and distribution.
