
Independent University Research Supports In Vitro Antiviral Activity of ErpeCream®
Studies conducted by the University of Ferrara provide independent scientific evidence supporting the antiviral activity of ACS Biomed's proprietary formulation.
ACS Produzioni Biomed S.r.l. (“ACS Biomed”), an Italian biotechnology company focused on the development of innovative topical solutions for Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infections, has completed a series of independent laboratory studies in collaboration with the Department of Life Sciences and Biotechnology at the University of Ferrara, Italy, evaluating the antiviral activity of its proprietary ErpeCream® formulation.
The studies were designed to investigate the formulation's activity against Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2) under controlled laboratory conditions, providing independent scientific data to support the continued development of the company's proprietary technology platform.
The results demonstrated that the formulation exhibited significant in vitro antiviral activity, while also confirming a favourable safety profile in the experimental models evaluated. These findings represent an important component of the scientific evidence supporting ACS Biomed's ongoing commercial and pharmaceutical development programmes.
Independent Scientific Evaluation
The research programme assessed the biological activity of ACS Biomed's proprietary oil-in-water nanoemulsion using recognised laboratory methodologies designed to evaluate antiviral efficacy and cellular compatibility.
According to the University of Ferrara studies, the formulation demonstrated no significant cytotoxicity under the experimental conditions tested while achieving a 93% reduction in HSV-2 viral infectivity in vitro at the evaluated concentration. The investigators also reported that the antiviral activity was associated with the synergistic action of the botanical components incorporated within the proprietary formulation.
These independent findings provide important scientific support for the continued evaluation of the technology across both commercial and clinical development programmes.
Supporting a Broader Development Programme
Additional laboratory investigations further explored the biological behaviour of the formulation, reporting evidence of dose-dependent antiviral activity together with inhibition of viral replication under experimental conditions. The studies also observed reductions in viral activity of up to 99% in specific laboratory models, supporting continued scientific investigation of the technology.
While these findings relate exclusively to in vitro laboratory studies and should not be interpreted as clinical outcomes, they provide an important scientific foundation for the company's broader research programme.
